According to 2007 data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the top five most popular cosmetic surgery procedures among men and women in the United States are 1) breast augmentation, 2) rhinoplasty surgery, 3) liposuction, 4) eyelid surgery, and 5) tummy tuck.

Three of the top five most popular procedures among men are also in the top five for women: liposuction, eyelid surgery, and rhinoplasty surgery.

Most Popular Procedures for Women

In addition to liposuction, eyelid surgery, and rhinoplasty, breast augmentation and tummy tuck surgery round out the list of the top five most popular cosmetic procedures for women. Three of these procedures in combination are the basis of what is becoming one of the hottest trends in cosmetic surgery, the "Mommy Makeover". By combining breast augmentation (or sometimes a breast lift), tummy tuck surgery, and liposuction, cosmetic surgeons are now able to restore the appearance of women whose body shape has been altered significantly by pregnancy and nursing.

Most Popular Procedures for Men

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, rhinoplasty is the single most popular cosmetic surgery procedure chosen by men. In 2007, more than 70,000 men underwent nose reshaping surgery. Rhinoplasty was followed by eyelid surgery and liposuction as the second and third most popular procedures.

The last two procedures rounding out the top five most popular cosmetic procedures for men are male breast reduction (for the treatment of gynecomastia) and hair transplantation. Male breast reduction in particular has become more socially acceptable as a cosmetic enhancement procedure as awareness about gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts) has increased. While cosmetic treatments that address hair loss have always been sought after, the rise in popularity of hair transplantation procedures is no doubt due to the introduction of more advanced hair restoration techniques and technology.
